Which Fashion Capital Should You Visit?
16:17
If you consider yourself something of a fashionista, then
you know that preparing to go on holiday is akin to preparing for a runway
show. Your destination is your catwalk, as you take in the elegant scenery and
boutique shops, all the while looking nothing less than Instagram-worthy for
all your holiday snaps. After all, it’s not a real holiday unless you
post plenty of pics to make people back home jealous.
The question is, which fashion capital should you tick off
your bucket list first?
New York
Can you even call yourself a true fashionista if you’ve
never visited the concrete jungles of Sex and the City? Renowned for its
infamous Fifth Avenue – perhaps the most famous shopping street in the world –
NYC is the crème de la crème of style, ranging from high-end department stores
like Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s to a hipster’s paradise in the form of the Brooklyn Flea
Market. Lose yourself amongst the stylish boutiques, market stalls and
thrift shops, and make sure to visit the bohemian cobblestone streets of Soho
if you’re seeking vintage gems. It’s worth making extra space in your suitcase,
as you definitely won’t be leaving the Big Apple empty-handed.
Berlin
The fashion capital of Germany, Berlin is a mishmash of
culture and style, making new style rules and then breaking them. It’s little
wonder that this city has attracted so many creative characters over the years:
music legend and style icon David Bowie once resided in the district in
Schöneberg. By exploring Berlin’s many flea markets (the largest of which is
Mauerpark), you’ll be mesmerised by the unique art, clothing, food, and
antiques. Or, for a shabby chic wonderland, you can visit Neukölln, as raved about by Mrhudsonexplores.com. A Haven of
students and artists, Neukölln is dotted with discount stores, cafes, pastry
shops and bars. The aptly named Repeater is a popular vintage shop, which,
although German, is also inspired by LA fashion.
Melbourne
Australia might be notorious for its wild Outback and
critters, but it is also home to one of the world’s most prominent fashion
capitals. While you might assume that to be Sydney, the title in question
actually belongs to Melbourne. The words ‘cool’ and ‘effortless’ spring to mind
when trying to describe the vibe of Melbourne fashion, with the timeless colour
black being a main staple.
Some of the city’s shopping top spots include (but are not limited to):
· Collins Street – Home to luxury brands Chanel, Giorgio Armani, and Louis Vuitton
· Chapel Street – Occupied by Top Shop, Nine West and MIMCO
· Bourke Street Mall – Presenting H&M, Zara, Myer and David Jones
Tokyo
Tokyo is the Asian style capital and an ideal
destination for anyone who wants to experience breaking the boundaries of
fashion. Notorious for its flamboyant youth fashion culture, Tokyo
has garnered its reputation thanks to its ‘Harajuku’
style, named after the Tokyo district that became
the birthplace of youth culture in the ‘80s. Harajuku represented young
people’s rejection of mainstream fashion and popularised the alternative,
ostentatious trends that are still going strong today. Whether you’re looking
to break out of your shell or want to use this as an opportunity to play
dress-up, you need to sample Tokyo yourself to truly understand it.

What a great post! I've been to New York a few times and they definitely have great stores for all budgets. I'd love to visit some of the other fashion capitals as well someday!
